Our design service turns your threat assessment into buildable detail: drawings, interface details and hardware schedules for rated doors, glazing, facades and HVM. We design for manufacture and installation, anywhere in the UK.

What the design service includes

Rated products fail most often at the junctions: where the doorset meets the wall, where the facade meets the soffit, where the barrier meets the foundation. Our design work concentrates on those junctions, producing details that can actually be built and that preserve the tested rating.

  • Detailed design of rated doorsets, windows, facades, louvres and HVM layouts.
  • Interface details at every junction with the building structure and other trades.
  • Hardware and ironmongery schedules: locks, hinges, closers and access control.
  • Fixing and anchorage details matched to the structural engineer’s design.
  • Coordination drawings for issue to the design team and the main contractor.
  • Design review of others’ proposals against the specification.

We also review existing drawings where a project is already underway: checking that the specified ratings are achievable in the construction shown, and flagging details that would fail before they are built. This design audit often saves a redesign later in the programme.

Interfaces decide success. Most failures happen where the rated product meets the building. We detail every junction before manufacture starts, not after it arrives on site.

Design stages

We work in stages with approvals at each gate, so nothing is manufactured from an unapproved drawing.

How design works

  1. Information gathering. We collect the threat assessment, drawings, structural information and programme.
  2. Concept. We set out the rated elements, zoning and key interfaces for agreement.
  3. Detailed design. We produce the full drawing pack and schedules.
  4. Coordination. We resolve clashes with structure, M&E and finishes with the team.
  5. Approval. The design is signed off by the client and the design team.
  6. Release. Fabrication drawings go to our works; see manufacture.

What design delivers

A drawing pack issued for construction: plans, elevations, sections, interface details, fixing details, hardware schedules and a schedule of rated elements with their standards and classes. Everything is revision-controlled, so site and office always work from the same issue.

When design is needed

Commission design on new builds where rated elements must sit inside the architect’s scheme, on refurbishments where new meets old, and on any project where interfaces are complex: facades, listed buildings, live sites. Design-and-build contractors use us to own the security package design within their contract.

Early engagement matters most. When we join at concept stage, rated elements can be integrated without compromising the architecture. Late engagement usually means adapting details around decisions that are already fixed, which costs more and performs worse.

Which products design applies to

We design across the range: ballistic curtain walling and facades, security doors and entrance control, hostile vehicle mitigation layouts, RF shielding rooms, and rated windows and louvres. Designs are produced for our own installation teams or for issue to others.

Frequently asked questions

Do you design to our architect’s drawings?

Yes. We take the architect’s scheme as the starting point and detail the rated elements within it, keeping sight lines, finishes and interfaces consistent with the design intent.

What information do you need from us?

The threat assessment or rating schedule, architectural drawings, structural information for fixing zones, the M&E layout where it affects us, and the programme. We will list exactly what is missing after the first review.

Can you detail interfaces with other trades?

That is the core of the service. We produce combined details showing our work against structure, cladding, M&E and finishes, and we attend coordination meetings to close out clashes.

Who signs off the design?

You do, with your design team. We issue drawings for approval at each stage and manufacture only from approved fabrication drawings.
