This section covers physical protection against forced entry, rated to LPS 1175 from SR2 to SR5. It includes steel doors, entrance control, windows, glazing and shutters. Specifiers use these ratings where the threat is a determined intruder with tools.
- SR2 to SR5LPS 1175 forced entry range
- B3 to E10Tool category plus attack minutes
- LPS 2081Stealth attack: SRA and SRB
- LPS 1270Attack-rated glazing
How the LPS 1175 ratings work
LPS 1175 is the LPCB forced entry standard, Issue 8. Each rating pairs a letter for the tool category with a number for the minutes of attack time. Categories run from A, an opportunist with basic hand tools, to H, extreme tools. The number is attack time, not total test time.
The ratings in this section run from B3 to E10. B3, known as SR2, resists three minutes of attack with tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and hand saws. C5, or SR3, resists five minutes with crowbars, drills and chisels. D10, or SR4, resists ten minutes with sledgehammers, disc cutters and jigsaws. E10, or SR5, extends that resistance to a wider tool set. The full table sits in the LPS 1175 standards guide.
Specify the code, not just the SR. B3, C5, D10 and E10 are the Issue 8 codes behind SR2 to SR5. Writing the code into the tender removes ambiguity.

Who specifies security products
Architects and specifiers choose the SR level and write it into the door and window schedule. Main contractors coordinate opening sizes and the installation sequence. Facilities teams replace doors that have been attacked or that no longer match the site risk assessment. Security consultants set the rating from the threat: see security consultancy and the government and defence sector page for typical threat-led choices. Stealth attack ratings are explained in the LPS 2081 guide, and attack-rated glass in the LPS 1270 guide.
What is the difference between SR2 and SR3?
SR2 is the B3 code: three minutes against basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers and hand saws. SR3 is the C5 code: five minutes against a harder tool set including crowbars, drills and chisels. Choose SR3 where the attacker is expected to arrive prepared.
Is LPS 2081 part of LPS 1175?
No. LPS 2081 is a separate LPCB standard for stealth attack with quiet tools. It has two ratings: SRA for one minute and SRB for three minutes. It suits sites where noise would give the attacker away.
Can a door be both fire rated and security rated?
Yes, as a dual-rated assembly. The door is tested to EN 1634-1 for fire and to LPS 1175 for forced entry as one doorset: see fire and security doors.
