Ratings from different standards are hard to compare: LPS 1175, EN 1627, EN 1522 and PAS 68 each measure different attacks in different ways. This service gives specifiers side by side comparisons, threat mapping and specification wording. It suits architects, consultants and procurement teams.

What the compare specifications service includes

We compare the ratings you are considering and show what each test actually proves, so the door, the glass and the frame end up matched to the same threat. A common mistake is pairing a high rated door with a lower rated window in the same opening; the comparison makes that visible before tender.

  • Forced entry: LPS 1175 tool categories against EN 1627 RC classes and PAS 24
  • Ballistic: EN 1522 FB classes for doorsets against EN 1063 BR classes for glass
  • Blast: ISO 16933 EXV and SB classes against EN 13123 EPR and EXR classes
  • Vehicle impact: PAS 68 and IWA 14-1 against ISO 22343-1:2023 terms
  • Fire: E, EW and EI classifications with 30 to 120 minute ratings
  • Stealth attack: LPS 2081 SRA and SRB where quiet entry is the threat
  • Written notes on where ratings do not align and what that means for the spec

The compare specifications process

  1. Brief. You send the threat, the site type and the ratings already on the table.
  2. Mapping. We map each rating to the attack it was tested against.
  3. Comparison. You get a side by side sheet showing where ratings align and where they do not.
  4. Wording. We draft specification clauses that name the standard and the rating.
  5. Review. Your consultant signs off the final specification.

What you receive from compare specifications

A comparison sheet, suggested specification wording that names the standard and the rating, and notes on gaps where no matching rating exists. The wording is written so your consultant can sign it off without rework. Our design team can then turn the specification into detailed drawings.

When you need compare specifications

Use this service when writing a specification from scratch, when tenders quote different standards for the same opening, and when a package mixes products such as a rated door with rated glass that must meet the same threat. It also helps where a venue is reviewing physical measures under Martyn’s Law.

Threat Standards compared What we map
Forced entry LPS 1175 vs EN 1627 vs PAS 24 Tool categories against RC classes
Ballistic EN 1522 FB vs EN 1063 BR Doorset rating against glass rating
Blast ISO 16933 EXV vs EN 13123 EXR Vehicle bomb classes against range test classes
Vehicle impact PAS 68 vs IWA 14-1 vs ISO 22343-1 Mass, speed and penetration terms

No direct conversion. Ratings from different standards do not convert by formula. Each comparison shows what the test actually proves, so nothing is assumed.

Which products and standards it applies to

The service covers the standards behind our product ranges: LPS 1175 security ratings, ballistic ratings, blast ratings, vehicle impact ratings, fire ratings, LPS 2081 and LPS 1270. Typical products in play are security doors and bullet resistant glass. The services hub describes our other specifier support services.

Frequently asked questions

Can an FB rating be converted to a BR rating?

No. There is no formula. FB rates the doorset to EN 1522 and BR rates the glass to EN 1063, against the same weapon sets, so we match them by threat: an FB4 doorset pairs with BR4 glass against the .357 and .44 Magnum threats.

Is PAS 24 the same as LPS 1175 SR2?

No. PAS 24 is a lower threat level for residential doors and windows. LPS 1175 B3, the SR2 rating, is a rated step above it with a timed attack using hand tools.

Which blast standard should I specify?

It depends on the product. ISO 16933 EXV classes suit vehicle bomb glazing, while EN 13123 EXR classes suit doors and windows. We map the threat first, then name the standard that fits.

Will you write the specification for me?

We draft the wording, naming the standard and the rating for each item. Your consultant reviews and signs it off, so responsibility stays where it belongs.
