What the security consultancy service includes
Consultancy is the thinking before the buying. We review the threat against your building, survey what is there, and write down exactly what rating each element needs. That written specification then controls everything downstream: design, procurement, installation and maintenance.
- Threat and risk review: what threatens the site, and how credible each threat is.
- Site security survey: construction, openings, sight lines, existing measures.
- Product and rating selection: the right standard and class for each element.
- Specification writing: tender-ready clauses, schedules and drawings mark-ups.
- Martyn’s Law gap review: what the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 means for your premises.
- Tender evaluation support: checking bids against the specification on equal terms.
Specify before you buy. The cheapest time to get security right is on paper. A clear specification stops overbuying where the threat is low and stops gaps where it is not.
Assessment options
Engagements range from a single survey to full specification authorship. The table shows the common forms.
| Assessment | What it covers | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Threat and risk review | Threat sources, likelihood, impact on the site | Rating schedule by element |
| Site security survey | Physical survey of construction and openings | Findings report with photographs |
| Specification writing | Full technical specification for tender | Tender-ready specification pack |
| Martyn’s Law review | Duties under the 2025 Act for your premises | Action plan with priorities |
The security consultancy process
- Brief. You tell us the building, the concern and the programme.
- Survey. We visit, measure and photograph the relevant areas.
- Assessment. We match threats to standards: LPS 1175, EN 1522, ISO 16933, PAS 68 and others.
- Recommendations. You receive a rating schedule: each element, its standard, its class.
- Specification. We write the tender specification so bids can be compared fairly.
- Tender support. We review returns and flag where bids depart from the specification.
What you receive from security consultancy
Every engagement ends with documents you can keep and use: the survey findings, the rating schedule, specification clauses and schedules in a format your procurement team can issue, and drawings mark-ups where needed. The specification belongs to you, and you are free to tender it to any supplier.
When you need security consultancy
Bring us in before the design freezes on a new build, when the security package is still cheap to change. On existing buildings, consultancy pays for itself at refurbishment, after an incident, or when insurance or the board asks for a documented position. Premises preparing for Martyn’s Law duties should review their physical measures during the implementation period, well before enforcement begins.
Where security consultancy applies
Consultancy covers the whole product range: ballistic protection, forced-entry rated doors and windows, blast protection, perimeter and HVM and specialist shielding. We also advise on the standards themselves; see LPS 1175, ballistic ratings, vehicle impact ratings and Martyn’s Law.
Frequently asked questions
Is your advice independent of product sales?
Yes. Consultancy is a standalone service with its own fee, and the specification we write is yours to tender anywhere. We will happily then quote against it, but you are under no obligation.
When should we bring you in?
As early as possible. Advice given before the design freezes costs little and changes much; advice given after products are ordered can only comment on what is already decided.
What does Martyn’s Law mean for our premises?
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 received Royal Assent in April 2025. Premises where 200 to 799 people may be present fall in the standard tier; 800 or more, and qualifying events, fall in the enhanced tier. There is an implementation period of at least 24 months before enforcement, and the regulator is the Security Industry Authority. Enhanced tier premises must consider physical measures, though the Act does not mandate specific products. A review now puts you ahead of enforcement.
Do you work alongside our architect and engineers?
Routinely. We attend design team meetings, issue our requirements in a form the team can coordinate, and keep our advice within your project’s QA and approval procedures.
