Waterjet cutting slices steel plate with a high pressure jet of water and abrasive, with no heat to distort the metal. It suits projects needing armour plate, lock apertures or brackets cut to exact shapes. We cut for our own doorsets and for supply only.

What the waterjet cutting service includes
A waterjet mixes abrasive into a high pressure water stream to erode through steel. Because the cut is cold, plate stays flat and hardened steels keep their properties, which matters for armour plate used in rated doorsets.
- Cutting of carbon steel and armour plate
- Lock and hardware apertures in door leaves
- Brackets, gussets and fixing plates
- Panels and screens for security metalwork
- Edges finished ready for welding or folding
- Cutting from supplied drawings or our own details
For ballistic work, cutting cold keeps the steel properties that the rating depends on. Read how the classes work in our ballistic ratings guide.
Cut edges come out square and consistent, which matters where a lock case must sit flush or a bracket must weld without gaps. Tolerances are agreed before cutting, not argued about after.
Waterjet cutting vs thermal cutting
Thermal cutting is faster on plain plate, but the heat changes the steel at the edge. For armour plate and precision apertures the cold cut is the safer choice, which is why we use it on rated work.
| Factor | Waterjet | Thermal cut |
|---|---|---|
| Heat input | None | Heat affected zone at the edge |
| Distortion | Plate stays flat | Thin plate can warp |
| Armour steel | Hardness kept | Hardness can drop near the edge |
| Edge finish | Clean, ready to weld | May need grinding |
Supply only cutting
You do not need to buy the doorset from us to use the cutting service. Fabricators and contractors send drawings for brackets, plates and apertures, and receive cut parts ready to weld. Repeat parts are kept on file for reorders.
How the waterjet cutting service runs
- Drawings. You send a drawing, or we detail the part from your specification.
- Nesting. Parts are laid out on the plate to keep waste low.
- Cutting. The jet cuts the profile cold, without heat distortion.
- Finishing. Edges are deburred and dimensions are checked.
- Dispatch. Parts go to site or into our own fabrication.
The deliverables from waterjet cutting
Cut parts with checked dimensions, deburred edges and the drawing marked with any changes. Parts can be supplied loose or built into finished doorsets. The services hub covers the rest of our fabrication work.
When waterjet cutting makes sense
Choose waterjet cutting where a flame or plasma cut would distort the plate, where armour steel must keep its hardness, and where apertures must land exactly for rated hardware. It also suits one off panels and screens that do not justify tooling, and urgent replacements where a doorset cannot wait. Send the drawing early in the design: small changes to a profile cost nothing at the cutting stage and can simplify welding and assembly later.
| Item | Material | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Lock apertures | Door leaf steel | Lock cases and keeps |
| Brackets | Steel plate | Frame and gate fixings |
| Armour panels | Ballistic steel | Rated doorsets |
| Louvre blanks | Sheet steel | Ventilation doors |
No heat distortion. The jet cuts cold, so plate stays flat and ballistic steels keep their hardness through the cut.
Products covered by waterjet cutting
Waterjet cutting feeds our rated doorset ranges, including bullet resistant doors, security doors, blast resistant doors and steel louvred doors. Supply only cutting is available for any of these components.
Frequently asked questions
What thickness can you cut?
We cut the plate thicknesses used across security doorsets and armour components. Send the drawing with the material grade and we will confirm the cut before work starts.
Can you cut from our drawings?
Yes. Send a DXF or a dimensioned PDF and we will check it, flag any issues, and confirm the edge finish before cutting.
Does waterjet cutting affect ballistic performance?
No. There is no heat affected zone, so the steel keeps its hardness and properties. The rated assembly keeps its tested construction.
